SALE! The NEXT sale to be exact, anyone who knows me knows I can't resist looking when theres a bright red SALE sign up. I recently moved into my own flat (nearly 4 months ago now) and that means I can get a little bit excited when it comes to homeware. I've suddenly got so much more space to work with, walls to fill and rooms to decorate. It was difficult not to buy a whole load of new items, have to be sensible sometimes. Instead this was more of a mini haul for a few decorative pieces, and I'm pretty happy with what I found.
Saturday morning at 7am I headed over to the Gemini store (with every intention just to window shop, oops!), an hour later I sat down in the corner of Costa with a coffee, to marvel at my purchases.
In my living room, I have a wall that is filled with a 'pick and mix' of frames, prints and photos. Mashing together modern and vintage styles, it's a pretty important centrepiece of my whole flat. With space still to fill I picked up this beautiful illustrated Hannah Cole print, that shows a series of dog breeds (It's as close to getting my own as I am going to get at the minute). It was just £8 reduced from £18 (I believe). I already have a flamingo print from NEXT the same size, they do a series of artist inspired prints each in a completely different style to the next. It was adorable and I had to have it.
Truth be told, I didn't completely boycott the fashion section fortunately. I recently ordered some Topshop boots that went out of stock, so I never actually received them and had been looking for a new pair of ankle ones. Instantly, I was drawn to this patent maroon pair with contrasting gold tone zips (just for show, the functional zip is actually the inside one, go figure). I live in a pair of black lace up ankle boots currently, but they are getting a bit worn and so I wanted another everyday pair for work. Choosing colour for me was a bit more of a risk (you can never go wrong with black) but they're super comfortable and as I write this already today I've had someone compliment me on them! Result.
Next, we have more photo frames because I always print my photos out. I've got a few full photo albums (need to invest in a couple more) and have yet to print out my 'Colour Run' pictures not to mention the mass of Trek America footage I will soon have to put on display! The top one is an adorable little light up hanging frame. This was just £3 in the SALE (now featuring a photo of me conquering Ben Nevis, I felt it was appropriate). The second lot of frames were just £4, they come in a set of 3 and I already have these actually in grey tones. I just couldn't resist the coloured ones too! They remind me of the Instagram style because of the square shape, working like viewfinders. I haven't yet decided where to hang these ones yet, and already think I'm going to try and pick some more up (they don't take up too much space and I would like some for my kitchen too).
Finally, textiles are a must have! The cushions in Next are always really cute and good quality, (I've got a bunch more cushions at home from here) and I was really drawn to these pink aztec print ones for just £4 each. My Bedroom is mostly white furniture with pops of colour thrown in through prints, a large wall tapestry, frames and some decorative candle holders. My current bedding is either a purple checked spread or a pale blue and pink floral print (both from Next too), which these cushions would also work very well with. However, on my hunt I came across this delicately detailed double bedding set. I couldn't help adding this to my basket (bedding is a necessity though, right?). It has a vintage feel, with the print not a million miles away from those antique crockery sets. I'm a sucker for prints, especially floral ones, and I really think the floral bedding and bold cushions contrast nicely. Perfect for summer nights.
Last, but not least I bought a set of tea towels, in a turquoise colour scheme with assorted tropical patterns. These were just £4 I think, my others were getting a little used and so these are a welcome addition to my home. That's my haul done. As you can tell from the stuff I bought, my house is a mis match of items. I try and keep to a particular colour scheme for each room but overall, throwing together different styles is all part of the fun. It gives the place personality and can look very stylish when the design is considered properly.
I'm still working on the decorating in my flat so bare with me, I am hoping to get photos up soon. There isn't a great deal left to do but between working, blogging and spending my spare time climbing mountains or training, it hasn't been getting the attention it quite deserves. That being said, I may get some painting done next weekend! If some opportunity for adventure doesn't come up first.
